If you are between 12 to 16 – and you dream of competing in BMX – then here is some big BMX news for you!
In 2010, the first Youth Olympic Games will be held in Singapore, with BMX riding one of the 26 sports chosen for the roster. Athletes selected for competition will be 14 to18 years old.We predict that the number of teenaged to young adult BMX riders will skyrocket, thanks to the sport being showcased in the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Bejing, China and in the 2010 Youth Olympic Games in Singapore.
Design a logo for the Olympics and you could become part of BMX news reporting.
According to the official Youth Olympic Games site, everyone has the opportunity to submit a design for the 2010 logo. The logo needs to be distinctive and contain:
- The words “Singapore 2010”
- The Olympic symbol of five rings positioned at the bottom, unaltered, and taking up no more than 1/3 of the size of the logo
- The words “Youth Olympic Games”
If you’ve got a great idea for the 2010 Youth Olympic Games logo, submit it today
The sport of BMX is getting more and more publicity – and I hope that the same amount of attention will be given to BMX protective gear.
I recently read an article about how to prevent BMX injuries; here are summaries of the first two tips:
- Always wear your BMX helmet. “Head injuries are common, and represent the most fatal type of damage riders can suffer. Wearing a BMX helmet is the only way to prevent these traumatic injuries.”
- Also wear other BMX protective gear. “Besides helmets, BMX protective gear is provided for knees, wrists, elbows, eyes, feet and legs. By wearing the equipment, you will be more likely to prevent a BMX injury.”
