If your son thinks he doesn’t need his skateboard helmet to ride home from a friend’s house, ask him to read this story. It’s a scary story, but with a great ending, about a boy who simply fell off his longboard while rushing home for dinner.

We’re very happy the story ended well, but it reminds us all of how quickly what appears to be a safe activity can turn deadly. Please - set a rule for skateboard helmets for your kids, and then stick by it. Let’s hope none of us have to make a split second decision at 2:00 am about brain surgery for your child.
